About · Why Paloma exists
Built from inside the agency, not from observing one.
Paloma Health Technologies is a healthcare technology company in Dallas, Texas. It publishes Paloma Cares and Paloma Talent. It was founded from more than 16 years of running healthcare agencies, by a registered nurse who has done the work the software is for.
Where the company comes from
Paloma was not conceived by people looking at healthcare from the outside. Its founder is a registered nurse who has operated healthcare agencies for more than 16 years, across home health, home infusion, VA care, private duty, private pay, Medicaid and staffing. The people behind Paloma have:
- Admitted patients and performed admission assessments.
- Taken physician orders and chased the signatures.
- Infused patients in their homes.
- Staffed cases, and covered them when a clinician called off.
- Hired, credentialed and supervised clinicians.
- Run emergency preparedness, for real events as well as drills.
- Prepared agencies for state surveys and been through them.
- Been through CHAP accreditation surveys and worked to Joint Commission standards.
- Dealt with authorizations, payer requirements, denials and audits.
- Made payroll from what was actually billed and collected.
What running agencies teaches you
- Software captures documentation without understanding why the documentation matters.
- Compliance staff reconstruct evidence after the fact, from charts, spreadsheets and memory.
- Billing discovers clinical problems weeks after the visit, when the claim is denied.
- Staffing systems do not know the patient who created the need.
- Credentialing is disconnected from assignment, so the schedule outruns the file.
- Survey preparation exposes failures that actually happened months earlier.
Paloma exists because these are not separate problems. They are the same work, seen by different departments in different systems.
Compliance should not begin when a survey is announced. Billing should not begin when someone opens the billing screen. Quality should not be reconstructed after the care has already happened. The operating system should understand these obligations while the work is being performed.
What we concluded from that, and the architecture it led to, is set out in the Paloma True North.
How we work
- We say what exists and what does not. What the product supports is listed from one source, with its status.
- We test on ourselves first. A permanent demonstration agency with synthetic data is run like a customer, so defects are found before a customer meets them.
- We show real screens with synthetic data, never mock-ups and never a customer’s records.
- We publish our price.
